A logbook for film photographers

Shoot film.
Keep every detail.

Film cameras don't record dates, locations or settings. MatchGrain logs every frame as you shoot — then writes real metadata back into your scans.

The problem

A scan is a photo
with no memory.

When your film comes back from the lab, every frame carries the same wrong date and no location. No camera, no lens, no exposure. MatchGrain closes the gap between the shutter and the scan — so a roll you shot in Rome in April actually says so.

How it works

Three steps, one clean roll.

Logging a frame's exposure settings and location
01

Log as you shoot

Open a roll, add a frame, note where you are and how you exposed it. Seconds per shot.

Matching developed scans against the shooting log
02

Match your scans

Point MatchGrain at your developed scans. It lines them up against your log automatically.

Processing a roll and writing metadata to each scan
03

Write the metadata

Process the roll and every scan gets real date, time, GPS and EXIF — saved to your library.

A roll laid out as a contact sheet of frames
Your archive

Every roll, laid out
like a contact sheet.

Browse your shooting history the way it was exposed — roll by roll, frame by frame. Track what's still in the camera, what's ready to match, and what's been processed.
